Allandale's Wildlife Habitat Steward, Cheryl Silver, has been working with Allandale and the surrounding neighborhoods to help us turn our backyards into certified wildlife habitats for the City of Austin Habitat Challenge. Here is her most recent report:
At a recent get together with Alice Nance, the COA contact person for the Wildlife Habitat Stewards, she mentioned that the numbers of certifications are up. I asked that she share some numbers for me to pass on to folks.
The wildlife habitat counts for May-July were:
May- 55
June- 60
July- 55
Previously, on average, Austin would get 10-15 new certified habitats per month. The Neighborhood Habitat Challenge seems to be working!"
I hope this good news encourages everyone to get their yards certified.
I think that Alice's own website: www.keepaustinwild.com answers lots of questions and is easy to use. The Habitat Challenge FAQs that is on the site are very helpful.
Take advantage of these cool mornings and enjoy your yard!
I am the contact for Allandale -- Cheryl Silver
